“Music has always been an important part of my life. Hearing a familiar song on the radio today immediately transports me back in time to a period of my life when I used to hear it play on the radio. I can sometimes recall what exactly I was doing and where I was when I first heard the song. Not only did I enjoy listening to music, I also played music. I developed a natural love for drumming, too.
Today, I use music as therapy. I play percussion instruments - congas, bongos, timbales, cajon - to help me deal with the physical symptoms of Parkinson’s disease. The music transports me back in time, but my hand drumming helps me deal with my condition today.
I look forward to sharing my love of music and how it has helped me live a life with Parkinson’s disease.”
